My Book Review on What Light by Jay Asher

Jay Asher is well known for his two books, Thirteen Reasons Why and The Future Of Us. The book I recently read from him was about this girl named Sierra and her parents who own a tree farm. Every year, they travel down to California to sell their trees and visit Heather who is Sierra's best friend.

She meets a boy at her farm whose name is Caleb. He buys his tree and she thinks she will never see him again. At first, when she came to California she had absolutely no desire in meeting a guy and dating in general. However, he keeps coming back to buy more trees. Sierra is now intrigued by him. They eventually talk to each other. She finds out that he buys trees for needy families which is (lets be honest) is super attractive. But that's not the only thing Sierra finds out about him... Rumors have gone around for a few years about this Caleb guy. Caleb tells Sierra the truth about the rumors. He went after his sister with a knife and stabbed her door multiple times. The reason being is because his sister Abby, kept accusing Caleb of making their parents divorce. As Caleb tells Sierra, she has second thoughts but forgave him for his actions.

REVIEW

A lot more happens in the story but I won't spoil all of it. I adored the characters. I loved the idea for the setting and the story line. However, what I found oddly strange was the stabbing the door part. I immediately thought he has a bad problem with temper. If that ever happened to me with my brother, I don't think I'd ever forgive him. I'd be scared for the rest of my life honestly. In my opinion, I think Asher should of picked a less violent scenario. Don't get me wrong, I love the book and how sentimental and traditional it is. But chasing your sister with a knife to me is too brutal and extreme. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone because there is more for you all to learn about...
